El Paso’s At The Drive-In Singer Reacts To Death Of Beastie Boys’ MCA Adam Yauch
Cedric Bixler Zavala, singer for El Paso’s At the Drive-In, has responded to the death of Beastie Boy 47-year-old MCA Adam Yauch “Paul’s Boutique was the soundtrack to my youth. Never have I been turned on 2 so many artists from 1 record. Thank u 4 the music Adam Yauch,” Bixler tweeted on Friday. At the Drive-In released “Relationship of Command,” their most successful album, on the Beastie Boys’ Grand Royal record label in 2000. The cause of death wasn’t immediately known. Yauch, who’s also known as MCA, was diagnosed with a cancerous parotid gland in 2009. He had undergone surgery and radiation. At the time, Yauch expressed hope it was “very treatable,” but his illness caused the group to cancel shows and delayed the release of their 2011 album, “Hot Sauce Committee, Pt. 2.” He hadn’t preformed in public since 2009 and was absent when the Beastie Boys were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in April. Rage Against the Machine guitarist Tom Morello tweeted, “Rip dear Adam Yauch. Words can’t express the sadness and loss. Ur humor, talent & gentle soul are just irreplacable. Be at peace brother.” “I always felt like Adam was a brother from an east coast mother: bass, hoops and skateboarding. A crazy talent whose contributions with his band were inspirational and consistently ground breaking. Our thoughts go out to his family, friends and his Beastie brothers,” Pearl Jam’s Jeff Ament said in a statement.
